From Mr. Campbell:
Year End Picnic
Your Parents In Action Committee wants to thank you for all the support we received this year. We are pleased to once again host a Summer Kick Off Picnic! Be sure to mark your calendar for Thursday, June 10 to meet anytime after 4:00 p.m. at Mission Creek Park. Bring the entire family, pack a picnic, bring some park toys and prepare to have a great time! Last year we had over 150 people which made for a wonderful time to socialize with friends and to get to know other KCS families! (Weather permitting)
Baby Teachers Needed!
This year, all of our grade 4 to 6 students participated in a program called Roots of Empathy, which focuses on increasing the level of empathy students show to others by raising their emotional awareness and social competence. Interestingly, this week's issue of Time magazine claims Roots of Empathy as one of the most promising anti-bullying programs, based on nine independent studies. The heart of Roots of Empathy is the community parent and baby who join the classroom. We are inviting any interested parents to participate in the life of the school by being involved in the classroom throughout the 2010-2011 school year. Roots of Empathy will be run in the grade 1 and 4 homerooms next year. There are 9 family visits, each being approximately 30 minutes long on Friday afternoons. Ideally, the babies should be between 3-4 months old in September. Parents will be asked to share how it feels to be a parent and to talk about how your baby is growing and learning. Fathers and/or mothers
are equally welcome to participate. If you would be excited about your baby being loved and adopted by one of our classrooms, please phone the school (861-5432) and leave your name and phone number or contact Jamie Roy at 764-4609 with any inquiries. Your baby will be loved by every student!
Library Book Return Contest
The first class in each grade to return their library books (not textbooks) and pay for any books that are missing will receive a treat. Everyone in the class must have returned their library books and paid their fine before they can win. The contest begins Mon. May 31st.
Summer Musical Camp
Mrs. Taetz is running a summer camp for ages 8 and up. Participants will have the opportunity to be involved in learning and then performing a full musical in one week! The summer musical camp will run from 9:30-12:30 each morning from June 21-25 in the Heritage Room at Evangel. They will be learning a full musical in that time, which will be performed on Friday night, June 25 and possibly also on Sunday, June 27. The cost for the full week is $45. Please email Lori Taetz at sonkidz@shaw.ca to indicate if you are interested, as space may be limited. |
The Labels for Education program will allow us to get some free Bill Nye science DVDs. Here is how it works. Please save the labels with the UPC attached from the following Campbell's products:

Put them in an envelope and mark the number of labels on the outside of the envelope. Hand them into your child's teacher. Once we have gathered enough labels, we can get a free DVD for our library. Thanks so much!!!

| Morning Entry We've been asked to inform/remind parents that the front courtyard entrance should not be used before the morning bell. There is supervision on the playground, so all students should be going directly to that area if the first bell has not yet rung. Thank you!

| Attention: Nuts Policy We have students in our school that have life-threatening allergies to nut products and peanuts. In an effort to protect them, we endeavour to keep the campus free of all nuts and peanuts. The school will not distribute or sell nut products or peanuts. We ask for our school families’ cooperation by not sending food to school or off-campus activities that contain nuts or peanuts. This is especially important to remember for class parties and social events.
While this policy limits food choices for families, it is an important enough health issue to warrant these steps. It is possible for students with peanut/nut allergies to react to smells, oil residues, and traces of nut dust. As well, increased contact often results in increasingly severe allergic reactions.
This policy came into effect on November 5th, 2008 and is more comprehensive than the previous policy which listed specific nuts.
If you have questions regarding this policy, please contact Mr. Campbell.
